My recording set-up is quite simple:
Behringer XENYX2222FX mixer
DOD 830 graphic equalizer
For guitar I use a Behringer V-Amp and a Peavey Vypyr
30-watt amp.
For bass I use a Line 6 Bass Pod, or just plug directly
to the mixer.
BOSS DR-670 drum machine.
Tascam DP-02CF Portastudio
Yamaha SM8 Studio monitors, powered by A output of
200-watt power amp.
Kenwood 12" 3-way monitors, powered by B output of the same
200-watt power amp.
Furman PB-40 patch bay.
Sony MDR-XD100 headphones.
Acoustic foam sound-proofing.
MXL 990 condenser mic.
Also have a Shure 58 and a couple of Shure Brothers
PE54 Series 2 mics that have a really good sound for
acoustic instruments.
I don't use a pc for recording. Never have found any software that I like as much as doing it hands on on an actual mixer. My Tascam records digitally, and I just export the final mix from it to my pc via a USB port.

Let's hear from the Bassists on IMS !!!

No Blake,I've had that G# for 30 years for a reason......it''s overall the most versatile of any bass I have.
The G# has three single coil pickups,(Gibson used Bill Lawrence pickups in these basses, thus my introduction to Bill Lawrence pickups), and combined with that wonderfully expressive Gibson neck with the maple fretboard, there's no style of music they won't cover.
Look them up for sure, and if you ever get the chance, buy one !!!
I also have another bass in the works.
It's a 1976 Gibson Grabber body,and I just bought a NOS G3 pickguard,and 3 NOS Bill Lawrence single coils like the ones in my '78 G3.
The plan is to put a Fender 5-string Jazz neck on the Gibson Grabber body, with all-original Gibson G3 electronics.
Want to try to get the versatility of the G3 Grabber in a 5-string bass.
It should be a sound to make bassists everywhere drool.........

Well, yes I do have some favorites.
Let's see...the 1978 Gibson G3 Grabber,which I bought new in 1978,
modified heavily over the intervening years, and just recently did a total stock restoration job on.....
My Ibanez SR505 with the Bartolini pickups.......
My current favorite,(as of this moment), is one I just finished putting together today.
It's a Fender Precision body,with an after-market maple fretboard Jazz neck,and a
Bill Lawrence EB-60PB split-coil pickup that sounds amazing.
Let's be honest, I love all of my basses, and have never even entertained thoights of selling any of them.
They all have unique tonal characters, differing from each other, and no two of them sound the same.
I'm not a **** Rob...just keep a big harem !!!

Yeah man. I use a lot of different basses playing and practicing too, Blake.
I currently own 12 basses, and all of them get played on a regular basis.
When friends come over and walk into my studio room, they say, "Man,this
looks like the bass section at a music store".
I just smile and say, "Welcome to my world"....... :)

Let's hear from the Bassists on IMS !!!

For the PYRAMIS tunes,I just plugged whatever bass I was using into a splitter, and ran
one side to the mixer and one to the amp.
The amp was not miked, just there as a monitor for me to be able to hear myself.
All of my bass sound comes from running the bass straight to the mixer, and eq'ing from the mixer.

Let's hear from the Bassists on IMS !!!

Well so far I have recorded twice with PYRAMIS, and used totally different set-ups both thimes.
On our first demo, from 2006, I used a Yamaha BBG5S 5-string bass, plugged directly into the mixing board.
On our second demo, from 2007, I used a "FrankenBass" I built out of parts I had lying around.
It started life as a Silvertone LB11 P-Bass clone, and I added a 1970's vintage Japanese pawn-shop special maple fretboard Mateo neck to it.
I played that through my Randall 125-115,( '80's "hair band" amp"

iMusicScene: Home for the orphans from Mixposure !

Ok,ok,I surrender to the new regime !!!
I could see the potential in this new layout, and I have to admit that it is better
than the old one,(probably helps that I am temporarily out of herb at the moment too !).
I'm starting to find my way around on it,and the features that you added back to the home page are making it feel more familiar.
Good work man.Still have to say that you are the best site administrator ever !!!!

Well,it certainly keeps things interesting.Just when we think we've figured this site out,you change the whole thing around.Good way to tell who's smoking the good stuff and who is smoking seeds and stems!!!
When I first opened this page up last night,I wasn't even sure it was the right site.I was checking the address bar in my browser to see if someone was effing with me.
I see the potential in the new layout, but must admit I liked the other one better...probably because I knew where everything was.
Did you talk to my wife???
She's always "straightening up" behind me,and once she does I can't find anything!
....lol.

I checked it out. You have definitely solved that glitch.
Thanks for being a hands on administrator.
You've got a job I wouldn't have, and are doing it in an admirable fashion.
Again, thanks for being so responsive. The other sites I've been on took an
act of god to get any type of response from administration.

iMusicScene: Home for the orphans from Mixposure !

It will as long as people help and support each other in the ongoing pursuit of becoming better all round musicians. The problem with a lot of solo artists is that they are solo artists because no one else could put up with them in a real playing enviroment because of some thing intangible that keeps them from being able to join in the give and take necessary to be a part of any successful band. Usually,it comes down to ego. Unfortunately, some,(not all by any means),some people's egos are so out if whack that they see every other artist as being inferior to them, and then we get the problem of people giving other artists low ratings to make themselves appear better.Rapster is upset about this very thing right now,and I must agree with him on it.
Also, there is a way around disabling the ratings system.
On some of the site themes,(Cobalt especially),when you join as a friend, the others who have already joined appear in a rating box at the top of the page,so even if you have the ratings disabled on your page, someone can still low-rate you when you appear in this box.
Don't know if that's a bug or not, just the way it is.
I personally would rather see the ratings done away with entirely, and let the music speak for itself.
Peace,
Tsargoth

So how many of you old Mixpo members like the feel and vibe of this site ?
I think it is better that Mixposure, because there is less negativity and bullshit
going on behind your back than there was on Mixpo.....that site thrived on nepotism, negativity,
and back-stabbing.
Let's keep those type of assholes from gaining a foot-hold here !!!!!!!!!!!
