“Swan Song” by Bill Thompson
Verse one
G D
I don’t know what you’ve done to me.
Em B
On that much we can finally agree.
C G
Our love song lost its harmony.
Am D
Now it’s way off key. And there’s no melody.
Verse two
A slow death on a lost highway,
Had no place to go, so we both stayed.
Under the pressure of our dismay.
Saw our love fade. We were so afraid.
Chorus
C B
Voice in my brain asked, “What went wrong?”
D Em
But the truth, I must accept.
C B
Co-wrote the lines to our swan song.
D Em
But guilt don’t rhyme with regret.
Am D
Was nothing I could do… to hold on to you.
Verse three
The leaves fell from our lover’s tree.
The reasons remain a mystery.
Bare branches that looked half-dead.
Loneliness straight ahead. Was I so misled?
Verse four
Our love silently disappeared.
A danger that I’d always feared.
It just happened like the melting snow.
Seasons’ change you know. Had to let you go.
Chorus
Bridge
Am C Em G
Am C Em D
Verse five
Ignored the signs that went unchecked.
Sat quietly through the disconnect.
Unfazed when it first began.
Maybe that was our plan? Did we give a damn?
Verse six
Confused solace with love it seems.
Thoughts of the good old days replaced future dreams.
The passion only lasted while goin’ strong.
So now we just play along. To our swan song.
Chorus
C B
Voice in my brain asked, “What went wrong?”
D Em
But the truth, I must accept.
C B
Co-wrote the lines to our swan song.
D Em
But guilt don’t rhyme with regret.
Am D
Was nothing I could do… to hold on to you.
Am G x2
And it won’t be long… until our swan song.
No, it won’t be long… until the swan song.
Love this!
I love all the collabs you guys are passing around and adding bits to each other's stuff! Not seeing much of that at other sites like Soundcloud, ReverbNation, etc. I'm finding that this is a very supportive community! TV and JR: You guys ROCK!
I figure Joseph took one of those Evelyn Wood Speed Reading classes and just transferred it to music composition... Either that or too much coffee!
TV I'll bet if we challenged Joseph he could put out a professionally polished song in 35 minutes!!
Wanna bet,LOL!

Definitely appreciate the support for the song and that MoQuinn certainly got the message. As usual, Joseph did a masterful job turning one of my stripped down acoustic songs into something special. I think he's constantly walking around with music swimming around his head. He's also in the Guinness Book of World Records for fastest turnaround time on a collab... under 24 hours! LOL
Lol! Thanks William!
Man! You certainly know how to eloquently put words together and pull the listener in to your message. The vocal arrangement with Jacki is perfect. And Joseph, WOW! very professionally done. I love this one. Without a doubt my favorite TrueVulgarians tune.

yet another true to life song from Bill Thompson ~ a great collab with Joseph Rodriguez & Jacki Grapentine ~ I do love your song stories this one (as I interpret) of a love that has been allowed to fizzle out ~ the problem with many relationships in today's society ~ a good relationship (whether it be friends, business or a special love interest) needs to be worked at to make it thrive & flourish - never become complacent if it is worth something all parties must keep it alive & well...sorry went off on a rant there - congrat's to all three of you love this song
Wow! Joseph you are a master!!! Great song all three of you.
