I follow your insights here Michael. I think many artists express musically those thoughts, opinions and insights that they would never dare to express directly to another person. So in effect, the song itself creates detachment or a buffer between the artist and the point one may be trying to get across. In that case, it would also be easier to just let the song stand on its own without the explanation one may be trying to avoid providing in the first place...
