What they have not always been known for -- especially those from earlier generations -- is successfully navigating their financial lives. Here are a few musicians who have filled our lives with song while sometimes dealing with far emptier bank accounts.</td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-2-lewis.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> Known as "The Killer," the "Great Balls of Fire" singer was famous for wild theatrics, making "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" an understatement as he played his piano like a man possessed, kicking over benches and slamming the keys with his feet. And as wild as he was on stage, he was wilder off. He courted controversy as a 22-year-old by marrying his 13-year-old cousin.</p><p class="nobot"><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> By the late '80s, Lewis, spurred on by trouble with the Internal Revenue Service and $3 million in debt, filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. His manager later told Fortune magazine this gave him a "new lease on life." Lewis, one of the subjects of the hit Broadway musical "Million Dollar Quartet," recovered quite nicely. He still tours, and his latest album, "Mean Old Man," was released in September 2010. It reached No. 30 on the Billboard album charts.</p></td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-3-crosby.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> A legendary member of The Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash -- and a member of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with both bands -- Crosby wrote or cowrote classic songs including "Wooden Ships," "Eight Miles High," "Long Time Gone" and "Guinnevere."</p><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> Back in 2003, Crosby estimated to Bankrate that he had earned -- and burned through -- around $25 million over the course of his career. But by 1984, he was broke, in debt for hundreds of thousands of dollars, and on his way to prison for drug and weapons charges. He filed for bankruptcy in 1985. When he got out of jail, he lived in a friend's spare bedroom and wore his friend's old clothes. Crosby righted his financial ship by getting back to work. He's toured with Crosby, Stills & Nash over the years and plays regularly these days with band mate Graham Nash. As political as ever, Crosby recently contributed to an album to support the Occupy Wall Street movement.</p></td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-4-petty.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> How many music legends can inspire a major director, such as Peter Bogdanovich, to direct a documentary about them -- that's almost four hours long? Between solo albums, records with his band the Heartbreakers and the scratchy-voiced guitarist supergroup The Traveling Wilburys, Petty has sold more than 60 million albums with hits such as "Don't Come Around Here No More," "Runnin' Down a Dream" and "Free Fallin'."</p><p class="nobot"><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> By 1979, Petty had several hits, including "American Girl," but not much money to show for it. When his record label was sold, Petty had a major problem with his contract simply being transferred from one label to another without his having any say in the matter. Not wanting to be "bought and sold like a piece of meat," Petty self-financed his next album for around half a million dollars, then refused to let the label put it out. He declared bankruptcy to help get released from his contract, got his release, and then re-signed to the same label, MCA, for considerably better terms. In taking this shrewd tactic, he set an example many musicians have since followed.</p></td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-5-newton.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> While a recording artist early in his career, Newton's real success came in his role as "Mr. Las Vegas." With regular headlining stints at various Vegas hotels over the years, Newton has earned as much as $25 million a year, with his net worth once estimated at around $100 million.</p><p class="nobot"><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> Newton declared Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1992 with an estimated $20 million in debt, including an IRS lien of more than $300,000. While he was in (much) better financial shape within several years, he was sued by the IRS in 2005. The agency alleged he and his wife owed around $1.8 million, partially for failing to report the sale of a horse. Since then, Newton has been sued several times, including a successful 2009 suit for back wages that earned a former pilot a judgment of more than $500,000 -- leading to the garnishment of Newton's wages -- and a 2010 suit for more than $3 million over a loan.</p></td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-6-gaye.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> Known as one of the greatest rhythm-and-blues/soul singers of all time, Gaye's seductive impact on the music world came from such hits as "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," "What's Going On" and "Let's Get It On." Gaye had 41 Top 40 singles including three No. 1 pop hits and 67 singles on the Billboard charts overall.</p><p class="nobot"><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> The master of the sexy single was taken down financially by divorce. Gaye filed for bankruptcy in 1976 after failing to keep up with alimony payments, as he reportedly owed his ex-wife in the neighborhood of $600,000. To get out from under her thumb, he promised his ex the royalties to his next album -- which ironically dealt with his feelings about the divorce. Gaye continued performing, but he still faced financial troubles and a drug addiction. He seemed to be making a comeback from 1982's "Sexual Healing" until, following a heated argument, he was killed by his father in 1984, the day before turning 45.</p></td></tr><tr><td><img src="http://www.brimg.net/images/6-music-legends-filed-bankruptcy-7-fleetwood.jpg" alt="" width="260" height="200" /></td><td><p><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Creative success:</span> When not hopping from bed to bed and enduring tumultuous breakups that would have even the "Jersey Shore" cast quaking in their tans, the members of Fleetwood Mac, including drummer and namesake Fleetwood, were creating some of the biggest hits of the '70s. Their 1977 album "Rumours" remains one of the best-selling albums of all time.</p><p class="nobot"><span class="fcDarkBlue fB">Financial failure:</span> While Fleetwood should have, by all rights, been a millionaire many times over throughout the '80s, he was done in by two oddly juxtaposed desires -- cocaine and real estate. His love for the former and bad judgment on the latter led him toward bankruptcy in the middle of the decade. By the '90s, though, he had reportedly turned his life around, including quitting drugs and developing a trusted team of financial advisers. He's toured and recorded in recent years with Fleetwood Mac and his own Mick Fleetwood Blues Band.</p></td></tr></table>

<p>I was very pleased to see that Rob Perez has expanded his Mixposure presence and added a page for each band. When I say that <a href="http://www2.mixposure.com/visual_cliff/">Visual Cliff</a> had not only an impact on me and others, it is a true understatement. The vocals on Let it Ring and Sacred are nothing short of remarkable as is the guitar work! <p><span style="font-size: medium;">You have probably noticed that inside your control panel is a new social media application. The goal is to move this to the main Mix Page as well as artist pages so it will be easier to update. We also have introduced a new bug it looks like where some of the images on the main page are no longer displaying properly. We are trying to determine what new changes you want to see on the site. We have debated on a completely new rewrite of the code or at least eliminating some of the stuff that is not really used. But te main thing is what do we need to add? What are we missing that would make this site better?</span></p><p><span style="font-size: medium;">Please feel free to be honest. White Productions inc. Stick @ It records, thank you for dropping by. Here, we have created a clubbing atmosphere for you to party the night away. Enjoy.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Having developed a very strong interest in music at a young age, I invested in a small recording set-up in 1986 - a Casio CZ1 synth and a Casio SZ1 4-track sequencer and a Carlsbro Colt 45 Combo speaker with spring reverb. With these, I composed music for a six-track project entitled "The Dream - The Ambient Album". I began to write bits of music here and there and then strung them together to make complete songs. However, having soon realized that four tracks were a bit limited for what I wanted to achieve, I purchased two Alesis MMT8 eight track sequencers, so I had 16 tracks to record onto.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Around this time, I was in London visiting the London Music Show. A stall was selling the now defunct Demo Chart magazine, this featured news, tips, interviews with bands and a top 100 chart. I entered the chart several times, under the name of White with my highest entry being number 43. This opened up a lot of doors for me and I had a lot of offers to collaborate with other artists.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">Between 1988-1993, I contributed to "Words To Be Heard", part of the Birmingham Youth Show, performing songs of my own and writing for other people. This had made me realise my potential and so I re-recorded "The Dream". the new version consisted of eight pieces of music. Now, finally, the CD version contains 10 tracks.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The equipment I have now is a far more powerful system from when I started in 1986. By 1988, I had upgraded to a Yamaha DX7S synthesizer, Akai X7000 sampler, Akai S1000 sampler, two Alesis MMT8 sequencers whilst keeping the Carlsbro speaker. it has taken more than ten years to get it to the stage where it is now.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">My studio is used as a ‘project studio’, all the music is recorded digitally via an Alesis Multimix USB2.0 digital mixer. When the tracks are finished, all the data (which is stored on the hard drive of my computer) is run off onto a CD, taken to another studio where it is loaded into Cubase, mixed, then mastered and the finished tracks recorded to CD. Artwork for the album covers and labels are designed using a dedicated software package.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">In 1995, and recording under the name of Stickman, I answered an advert in the local press searching for local bands and musicians to appear on a showcase CD, it was through this that I met my producer and keyboard player. Together, we have produced several albums, written radio jingles and music for plays. I have also been interviewed by several newspapers, been published in magazines and featured on Mixology, a CD based DJ magazine and Inspire, an Australian website dedicated to creative people with disabilities.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The following year, Dream Music Productions was set up along with Patch UK - a programming sideline creating sounds for various synthesizers. To date, we have a healthy database of clients reaching across the globe stretching worldwide.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">2007 saw me signing a distribution deal to have our album "Cyborg" distributed worldwide. "Cyborg II" was released in June 2008, and our third album - "Electro Love" followed in 2009. For details of where they are available, please see my blog.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">The latest project "So Good", which concentrates on various styles of music and is aimed towards the TV and film industry, was released on 1st May 2010. Along with this release, we changed our name to Duncan J. White Productions inc. Stick @ It Records to officially set up our record label.</span></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: medium;">We are always working on fresh, new ideas. I am available for interviews, articles, publicity shoots etc. to help promote our labels. <p><span style="font-size: medium;">I was on my wife's facebook page this morning and was reading a message she had posted. (correction...she did a repost from George Shepherd's Page) It seemed like one of the snope worthy articles due to the nature of the post. So I set out to research it and make sure it was real. Much to my sadness, it was an actual event. After researching it, I found a link to a youtube video of the experiment. Please read the article first before watching the video. He played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, since it<span class="text_exposed_hide">...</span><span class="text_exposed_show"> was rush hour, it was calculated that 1,100 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work.<br /> <br /> Three minutes went by, and a middle aged man noticed there was musician playing. He slowed his pace, and stopped for a few seconds, and then hurried up to meet his schedule.<br /> <br /> A minute later, the violinist received his first dollar tip: a woman threw the money in the till and without stopping, and continued to walk.<br /> <br /> A few minutes later, someone leaned against the wall to listen to him, but the man looked at his watch and started to walk again. Clearly he was late for work.<br /> <br /> The one who paid the most attention was a 3 year old boy. His mother tagged him along, hurried, but the kid stopped to look at the violinist. Finally, the mother pushed hard, and the child continued to walk, turning his head all the time. This action was repeated by several other children. All the parents, without exception, forced them to move on.<br /> <br /> In the 45 minutes the musician played, only 6 people stopped and stayed for a while. About 20 gave him money, but continued to walk their normal pace. He collected $32. When he finished playing and silence took over, no one noticed it. No one applauded, nor was there any recognition.<br /> <br /> No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the most talented musicians in the world. He had just played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, on a violin worth $3.5 million dollars.<br /> <br /> Two days before his playing in the subway, Joshua Bell sold out at a theater in Boston where the seats averaged $100.<br /> <br /> This is a real story. Joshua Bell playing incognito in the metro station was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste, and priorities of people. The outlines were: in a commonplace environment at an inappropriate hour: Do we perceive beauty? Do we stop to appreciate it? Since we have 2 small girls, they wanted to name him Maximus (From the movie Tangled) or Merlin.
