My apologies for doing this everyone but the one thing I have always disliked about Mixposure was the Forum. The existing PHPBB forum we have used I thought was great for a number of years. However the functionality was always kind of limited and in visiting other forums over the years I have always thought VBulletin Board Forum was a much nice and professional look. With that we have purchased the forum and have been making minor changes to hit over the last week. Why minor changes you ask? Well they just updated to version 4 and the skins for it are kind of limited at the moment. So we will give it some time and wait for one we like to purchase or just customize our own.

We have moved the posts and users over but the bad news is that the avatars did not make it and the passwords have to be reset. So with that in mind, when you register for Mixposure, we have software in place that creates your forum user_id and password at the same time. When you change your password, it will also change your forum password. To access the new forum, you will need to go into your control panel > on the right click on Account Info > then change your password to the same password you are using right now. You will now be able to log into the forum.

We will be adding some more features to the forum like a shoutbox and a few other things over the next few days. The address of the new forum is www.mixposure.com/forums/ and we will eventually redirect the old url to the new. I do want to leave the existing forum up for a week or so so people can grab their avatars if they were not saved. Signatures came over but you may need to resize them. You can also add images to your signature now. Please keep it clean!!

If you have any login issues, please send a message to me or RWK and we will see what we can do to correct it. Pardon our dust again and forgive yet another upgrade!!

Dazed

****Arcade System Added****

Mixposure February Artist of the Month

Well, we had a great start with our January Artist of the Month, and as the year continues to gain momentum, we turn the page now to February 2010's featured Artist.-- Larry Talbot aka "Wherewolfe" of TLT50. Here at MIXposure we shamelessly boast the talent of this veteran artist, who easily expands the boundaries of multiple genres. Within the realm of Wherewolfe Studio Productions, you will find a most exciting collection of dynamic, high-quality musicianship, playful mixing and professional quality arrangement and production. He produces a wide spectrum of instrumental driven original music, not bound by genres-- from ambient chill, experimental electro blues, deep house, drum & bass, to new age, soulful funk and Jam Band.

You can view his bio and listen to his music here at MIXposure, on the TLT50 artist page, in addition to his studio website at http://www.tlt50.com., which talks about how he learned and experimented with many of the sounds he continues to produce today. Writing and recording music became Larry's passion, and he admits its powerful force in his life.

The keyboard and musical prowess of Larry Talbot has always been front and center to the veterans here at MIXposure and elsewhere, as demonstrated by his steady stream of collaborations with various others. His music has also captured much attention from our newest artists and listening members alike. It is timeless and classic, though something that never gets dull or complacent. With his style and ability, Larry always has something fresh to offer to the listening audience, as well as being a most sought-after collaborating partner. An artist and musician in the true sense of the words, I hope you will take the journey under the full moon, and wander the streets of MIXposure to discover the legend of the "Wolf," Larry Talbot, at http://www2.mixposure.com/TLT50/music.php.

Congratulations to Larry from the MIXposure Team.

Mark Cloutier

Mark Cloutier

Whenever there is news on a Mixposure Artist, we will always try and keep everyone informed! If you have news, please email us!

Mark Cloutier

Based in Upstate New York, in the Syracuse region, guitarist Mark Cloutier is doing a great job releasing a barrage of CDs on his Blues Lion Records label. Much of Mark’s 2009 CD Attitude With Gratitude is instrumental in nature and with that unique element front and center, his guitar work sounds also greatly inspired by rock legends like Hendrix, Jimmy Vaughan, early Buddy Guy and T-Bone Walker. Likewise, much the same could be said about Mark’s 2008 CD with his group Stratattack, entitled Blues In My House. Featuring solid support from an adept rhythm section, Cloutier’s guitar takes on a number of sonic guises on different tracks. For instance, track 8 on Attitude With Gratitude, “There’s A Place”—a great atmospheric instrumental that mixes rock and jazzy styles to great effect—is one of Cloutier’s finest and most memorable tracks. One look at Cloutier’s web site and you can really see a guitarist who is quite prolific, with each of his CD's being strongly recommended to both blues and rock fans, as well as guitar instrumental fans. www.DoubleBarrelBluesBand.com

MUSIC WEB EXPRESS 3000
presents MARK CLOUTIER
Guitars Center Stage Guitarists making waves in the music world, their new recordings and gear!

Musical Background

I started playing guitar when I was 14 years old. I saw this fella playing a Halifax Les Paul copy guitar in the school hallway and it caught my attention. I remember him playing “Ain’t Talking ‘Bout Love” by Van Halen and I thought it was the coolest thing. I approached him and asked about the guitar and he told me he was selling it. I went home and begged my parents for a week or so and they finally gave in and gave me the money to buy it! Very exciting for me as I was tiring of athletics and need something new—a new challenge! I had a friend who played guitar so he started teaching me basics and eventually I studied with a fella by the name of Dana Klipp. He turned me on to the blues and all the great guitar players! I have been playing for 30 years now and everyday I am still learning something. I also enjoy playing bass and on some of my early solo guitar recordings you can hear me playing the 4 string!

New CD

As you may have noticed I am very busy recording my works. It really is an ongoing documentation of all my ideas and influences. I really love turning on the record and sometimes just tapping into my stream of conscience. Lately I have really worked on themes and dynamics to build off of and then come back to. Seems to be a very good formula of late. The new CD Attitude With Gratitude was based on that formula. I received some helpful tips from the legendary Bruce Iglauer of Alligator Records. He has listened to some of my recordings and made mention of paying a bit more attention to melody and themes to bring out my soloing more. I took that advice and think I am heading in the right direction for sure! Attitude With Gratitude is the result.

I record at home in a very simplistic manner. I use Cakewalk software with a Lexicon Lambda usb. The bass guitar and drums are from a fellow by the name of Lawrence Fritts, a professor from Iowa University. He had posted some backing tracks to be used by musicians such as myself. I asked him if it would be okay to use the tracks for my CD’s. He said no problem and mentioned he really liked what I was doing with them! I have embellished many tracks with rhythm guitar and in some cases double lead work. I just plug my SRV Fender Strat into either my Crate or Hughes and Kettner amp and run it direct into my computer by way of mic-ing my amp. It’s a cool formula that allows me to work efficiently during my usual two hour stints of recording per session. I work and have a family and gig often so I am very busy. I do much of the online advertising with our web site and everything else involved. Essentially, I am my own recording label. I do think these recordings are influenced by my many years of gigging and reading people. The people’s response-reaction to what you do and what you don’t do are important. I tend to lay back quite a bit to set the crowd up for my attack. Some say it’s a form of blues shredding when I get excited. I would say Buddy Guy has influenced me in that manner—I love how he attacks. Of course SRV had the same effect on me along with Hendrix.

For those of you who did not know, Rick built this custom SG and gave it to Buck Dharma from Blue Oyster Cult. Here is a video he found on youtube of him playing it in concert.

Way too cool Rick!

Mixposure Page & Widget Page

By Admin, 2010-01-22

I just wanted to let everyone know that we did a slight update to the site. Dace had mentioned that he missed the blogs on the main page and I agree so I did do a slight update. Under the Site Blogs you will now see the addition of Artist Blogs. That will display the last 10 blogs entered.

There were also some people that wanted the players to start when the web page loaded and others who did not want it to load. What we did was to create two code areas to copy from on your Widget Page. One will have the autoload function and the other will not. Just copy the one you need. Also please remember that the majority of the audio players are scalable. All you need to do is to change the height and width values to make it the size you need.

I hope this helps!!

Dazed

New Forum

By Admin, 2010-01-19

Mixposure has a New Forum for Video

When the Monkees TV Show premiered back in 1966, they were probably unaware of what they really started. Incorporating their music into "mini-movies" with sketches is consider by many to be the first music videos ever aired. Then MTV started a whole new music video revolution back in the 80's. Does anyone still watch that channel? Anyway now we have YouTube sweeping the world as a music medium and it is something we all need to start doing hence the creation of this forum.

Gary Hart asked us to add this forum and I am sad to say we should have done it years ago. I think this is a great opportunity for everyone to use this forum to start producing their own music videos. If you are an expert, fantastic I know we could use your help. If you are a beginner, you can still create videos very easily.

Thanks for the heads up Gary. I am looking forward to this forum!!

The Stevies!

By Admin, 2010-01-13
The Stevies!

I wanted to thank Steve Gilmore, not only for all of the reviews he has done of Artists on Mixposure but also for his comments on Mixposure for the Stevies 2009!

You can read the entire blog message here!

......

Words On The Web

Putting on my musician hat a second (Audience: **** me, he's a musician??), I have discovered one essential fact about establishing yourself online. Spread yourself as wide as you can manage reasonably. I am personally active on several OMD's (Online Music Distributors); Soundclick, MP3 Unsigned, Mixposure, POP and POPSpace and those sites have been of benefit to me as a musician and as a pool of music for reviews. As a reviewer then, the Rebelriffs blog, opened me up to a whole new world of music from sites such as Myspazz, youboob (Ed: dude, you can't do that!), endless 'netlabels' and promotors and countless other smaller OMDs. It's brought me (and you I hope) some outstanding music OUTSIDE the usual 'music' sites I mentioned and that can never be a bad thing. Website forums can be pretty insular places sometimes, know what I mean?

So, Soundclick carries on apace, close on 4m members and definitely the big kid on the block numbers wise. Soundclick, in my considerably humble opinion, is good at what it does. It has spent a lot of time learning how best to manage a HUGE music community, and it's still THE only place around that places no limit on the amount of tracks you can upload without going VIP. Now while I urge people to go VIP anyway - at least if you are serious - I can understand if you have better uses for your money. On that score, Soundclick is untouchable and - for me anyway - still the centre of TRUE unsigned talent on the net.

The real surprise this year, for me anyway, has been Mixposure. See, that Mike-K. Say what you like about him, he's a shrewd cookie. When he moved his justly famed Saturday Night Rocks radio show to Mix Radio, I knew he had something - just took me a while to see what. From the initial thoughts from Dazed and a motley crew (you know who you are), the ashes of Mixposure were brought back to storming life. Broadcasting now every day of the week - see the site for details - Mix Radio is THE sound of unsigned music. Although it still has a top heavy guitarist/rock slant, the site is opening up new areas every time you look. For example, I listened to an hour of solid jazz (and I mean jazz) on New Year's Eve on the station...

MP3 Unsigned went through a change of management and are currently undergoing a new look. Where Soundclick is hip hop heavy and Mixposure is rock heavy, MP3 Unsigned seems to tread a delicate path between the two and seems to be undergoing a surge of new activity and the returning of some familiar faces (say hi, Mezzer, Slippy, clive et al). It also seems to have lost a lot of the clique-y feel that dogged it for a time there. All in all, things are coming along very nicely indeed. POP and POPSpace have not only been a good website for me (one for my own tracks, one for my more general activities) it's been an inspirational source of truly awesome music this year and the continued clamour for reviews from the blog has stopped me from doing all but grabbing the odd track or two to bring to your attention.

As I said before, these are my own personal opinions and I have no affiliation whatsoever with any of these sites other than my own activity on them. On music OMDs opinions are always going to differ but in the 'scene' (Ed: Godawful word) I inhabit, these are the main sites for most of the musicians I highlight in this review. Speaking of which...

Read the rest of this blog here!

Music Players

By Admin, 2010-01-08

Gabriel posted in the forum about having some issues with the audio player buffering. I can not duplicate this on Mac or PC with multiple browsers. We run two different servers that are no where near capacity and run multiple xeon processors and a ton of memory. I am not thinking it has to do with any of the servers.

So is anyone else having any issues with the flash players buffering? When you first click the play button, you should see the buffer bar jump out about an inch in front of the play bar.If you are ahving any issues, please post a reply here and let me know what browser and version you are running, pc or mac and what operating system.

Thanks for your help!

Todd
