Song Lyrics
Lyrics David C Deal
I cannot understand
What happened to the light?
The path is gone, I see no lines.
An ocean drained of water
A river made of sand
No...
Another Way of Being (DCDeal, Bill Smith, Nigel Potter, David Coonrod, Buddrumming)
Lyrics David C Deal
I cannot understand
What happened to the light?
The path is gone, I see no lines.
An ocean drained of water
A river made of sand
No angel in my dreams;
No dreams in this sleep
Ayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Can you help me - can you hear
Ayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
I need someone to fix the crack that opens to another way of being.
Another way of being
Part 2
Now I remember
How you touched my heart
You reminded me
That I’m not alone
The dawn of awakening
The energy flows in my soul
Like a river flooding a desert of rusty sand
I remember
I remember
I remember
The Truth of being
I remember
I remember
I remember
The feel of your mind in me.

Well this is certainly a case of better late than never, but I only heard this tune recently and was really impressed with this collab. Everything about it is great with Nigel's vocal putting the frosting on the cake. So nicely performed by all and so well produced and recorded. I can only hope someday my recordings will sound 1/2 as good as something like this. Just excellent DCD!

Dave and crew,
I do agree with Sherz with respect to the vox mix...I do believe it's too wet. Setting that aside, a fabulously well arranged and written song with a ton of feeling. It flows right along with those great lyrics while everyone is doing their utmost to contribute to this great piece. The cast of musicians here are among my favs. Really a wonderful accomplishment that connects straight up to inner core. Congrats Bill, Dave, Dave, Bud and Nigel!!! Super! ...B

Well, it's certainly big and melodramatic with all the classic prog-elements, with some great performances throughout. Nice! I was never a huge fan of prog but I certainly appreciated the diversity and musicianship that was often associated with the style all Of which I can hear in this track. Guitars, keys etc etc all sound really good. Some of the drum fills sounded a little 'machine gun' but not something I'm gonna lose sleep over! Overall the mix sounded a just a little 'thick" for want of a better word.
Now, I do have one major issue with this mix though. And I realise my opinion is contrary to most others! I note Farell said "how important it is to make every guitar solo note count". More so for me - every vocal note and word should count, and unfortunately for me there's large sections where I can't tell a single word that is being sung. There's also a handful of pitchy notes which I found a little distracting, which I think would be easy fixes. I think one of the issues is the way the vocal is mixed. It may have been the way it was done back in the 70's but I'd be going for a much drier, upfront approach. There's a character-rich granularity in this voice which is being masked quite a bit by FX which I think is a shame really.
All in all the a great collaborative effort!
12/03/10 01:32:03PM @farrell-jackson:
Excellent collaboration from some very talented musical friends of mine! A powerful song David and the keys are great throughout! Nigels vox are very powerful and deliver the lyric message as only Nigel can. Bill...as stated in one of the Mix chats of how important it is to make every guitar solo note count in order to be exceptional...well you nailed it and the exceptionallity! As David mentioned in the info. section: Mr. Coonrod's fine bass playing coupled with Bud's solid drums stitches this song together to present a well defined, powerful, and professional progressive rock song....just like I like them...well done gentlemen! David thanks for directing me here to listen and comment!

hey what a super group, and the result is a super track, totally prog rock, superbe performance from all involved congrats on a great piece of art.
12/03/10 09:03:11AM @vesa:
A very classy intro, love that piano, pulls me in, a drum roll to give a suspenseful anxt...enjoy the cascading keys before the guitar begins a new journey into quite a different mood;-- very well thought through with the shimmering chimes and bell alters one into a mystical realm.
Great guitar soars in like a fierce burst. Great vocals. Love the transition with a lovely organ sound, and fine addition keyboard artistry to change the feeling. DYNAMIC right through. Such FAB arranging. Fine synth keeps that feeling alive where the guitar started flying, and the vocals began, complimenting the singing, of soaring sounds, with another blast of seering guitar. Great lyrics. A wonderful production. Fine chemistry. Love them keys, synth to piano and guitar that works so well together. Fine chemistry here guys.
A SUPERB tune, worth more listens. Totally awesome orchestration. *****

This line-up of musicians, before even pressing the play button, hearkens of the wonderful music to come. Then, true to talent assembled here, and right out of the gate, this is a beautiful piece of music. Quite a special tune, to my ears and heart.
Such a well written song, flowing seamlessly through its beautiful changes, from beginning to end. The choices of instrumentation could not have been any more appropriate, to my ears. The mix and production are top-drawer.
The musicianship is as good as it gets... period.
Lyrically, a masterpiece, imho. Relatively few words, speaking volumes. Nigel's vocal is deeply moving, as is called for by the tune. Gorgeous.
But I think the biggest compliment I can offer is this: while writing this, I have been listening. Not sure how many times through, but it must be at least a dozen. I did not have any difficulty thinking of things to say... that's not why I let it play so many times. It played so many times because typing got in the way of listening to the song. I want to "listen" to this over and over. That is the highest compliment I know how to give a piece of music, and this piece of music is such a song.
I am completely blown away, gentlemen. I love it.

I live in Ohio where I am a practicing Psychologist http://davidcdealphd.com/ . My favorite instruments are an array of keyboards, however I also enjoy playing acoustic guitar. I currently perform in a Trans-Siberian Orchestra tribute band named Siberian Solstice. www.siberiansolstice.com ,
I have released two CD’s, “Harmonic Space” and “Transformations.” “Harmonic Space” is a clinically based CD that aids people in coping with anxiety and sleep disorders. “Transformations” is a concept album that is both a spiritual autobiography and, hopefully, a spiritual vessel. The songs from Transformations have deep, emotional, and spiritual intent. I continue to write, record, produce, and collab and have also posted many of these songs.
My musical styles are said to range from those of progressive rock bands such as YES and Pink Floyd to Broadway musicals such as those of Andrew Lloyd Weber. I often add a little bit of Jazz and Classical flavoring. I have recently been mixing my acoustic guitar roots with more progressive elements.
A Word from David:
I have been blessed with many artistic and musical friends who have offered their talents to my recordings. Some of the musicians who played on the posted songs include Les Brooke, Tom Hannah, Tim Vargo, Andrew Vargo, Cynthia Lugo, Andrea Bok, David Coonrod, Ned Clark, Kevin Peters, Kristin Sorensen, William O’Connell, Ked Deiter, Mack Sanders, Rob Hanlon, Richard Gonzales, Bob Ross, Pat Ross, Michael Duryee, Nigel Potter, Joseph Rodriguez, P.E.Bailey, Carol Sue Kirkpatrick, Bill Smith, Buddrumming, Rasmuth, Jolee, Terry Wigmore and John Else, I want to extend special thanks to Arthur Kills Straight Putnam who wrote and recorded all of the native flute parts which follow each song in “Transformations”.
Finally, I want to say a special thanks to David Coonrod. He plays incredible bass on many of the posted songs and has been an awesome collaborator and friend. At this point I would hardly be willing to release any musical arrangement without passing it by his ears for suggestions etc. A talented, selfless friend and a musical compadre.
Transformation Cover Message:
"Sometimes, in the midst of a perfectly ordinary day, one is unexpectedly flooded by the magnificence of “what is.” Perhaps that moment of awareness and clarity arrives while watching a storm or absorbing a piece of art or kneeling with intention in a church. If blessed, echoes of the past and visions of the future fade from existence as the unknowing silence of the infinite present emerges. With patience and grace, one comes to know the incredible richness of “what is” as a revelation of God’s face, and the mind is forever transformed into a mirror of creation." . . . .
Doc, Nigel, Bilbozo, David, Bud....this is one incredible piece of music to my ears....a timeless classic for sure....just awesome!!!
